To the Ladies

Founded in 1927, the Natchez Garden Club is a community organization whose purpose is to perpetuate the history of Natchez, and to keep the memory of the lives, traditions and accomplishments of the people who made that history; To sponser the Natchez Pilgrimage and Historic Natchez Tableaux, and to sponser and support other community projects and endeavors.

The Natchez Garden Club's community service projects include maintaining the antique rose garden at the James Andrews House/Lawyer's Lodge, and our work at the historic Natchez City Cemetery Camellia Project. We also supply food for the Stewpot and much-needed supplies to the Guardian Shelter.

To promote our city, our members serve on city boards and commissions, host special events for visitors to our city, and work closely with the Natchez Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Historic Natchez Foundation, and Natchez Downtown Development Association to provide community events seasonally.

The Natchez Garden Club has contributed to the development of the Natchez Trails Project in conjunction with the Natchez Community Alliance. The Alliance has developed a historic walking and biking tour in downtown Natchez, Mississippi.

We continue to develop living history tours that enhance our historic properties. Our club will also provide space for artists to create and display appropriate artwork of the period at one of our houses during Fall and Spring Pilgrimages.

Working closely with our sister organization the non-profit Preservation Society of Ellicott Hill, the club works to restore, maintain and preserve the houses and grounds of Magnolia Hall, James Andrews House/Lawyer's Lodge and The House on Ellicott Hill including our meeting site, Ellicott Hall.

We  work constantly to improve our skills of gardening and sound environmental practices. The grounds of all three club-owned houses show evidence of our commitment to sound horticultural practices by the planting of historically and regionally appropriate plans in our urban environment. Our gardens are available to our Young Gardeners, so that we are able to share with them the importance of conservation of trees, wildflowers, birds, water and the land itself.

We dedicate ourselves to the education of the garden club members of the future, as well as to visiting tourists and area community.
